The first project of Community Supported Agriculture in Berlin is located near the Bauerngarten in the nature reserve area in Gatow on the Havel. The main idea of this type of Agriculture is for the participants to share the risks with the farmer by paying a fee in advance for fresh produce throughout the year. The project was founded by Christian Heymann under the name Speisegut (Eating Well). Planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting were at first mainly carried out by volunteers. Thankfully, Speisegut was very successful in garnering support from new members. Speisegut supplies amongst others the restaurants in Prinzessinnengärten. The founder, Christian Heymann, could also expand Speisegut into an oil mill in the neighboring Kladow. He is a certified organic foods farmer and a member of Naturland and Slow Food.
